The Gig Harbor Peninsula Arbor Day Organization was founded in 2001 by student Chris Clifton, presiding mayor Gretchen Wilbert, Holly D'Annunzio and Carol Alex, all of Gig Harbor, Washington. The Arbor Day Celebration was born out of the desire to raise awareness about the importance of trees and to promote the planting and preservation of native trees in our community. This would be accomplished by holding an annual Arbor Day event and sponsoring student contests. Tree seedlings are also offered to the schools and to all those who attend the Arbor Day event.
These activities have grown over the years and now every school in the district is involved in Gig Harbor's annual Arbor Day Celebration, through the student contests, tree orders or participation in the actual event.
Meet Our Board Members

Carol Alex, a para-educator for the Peninsula School District, joined Holly and a student in planning that first Arbor Day Celebration in 2001.
